Stack Lounge Chair
Six courses of slats wrap the arms and the back, every other one stepping forward, on a deep 2x10 plinth that seems to float on hidden feet. It takes a standard 24 × 24 deep-seat cushion set. Every slat is a plain 2x4 laid flat, and spacer blocks set every gap, so nothing on the walls is measured. Four cut lengths, and every screw was checked in 3D to land in solid wood.

- Pick #2 Prime boards and sight down each one. Take the straightest and grab one spare of each size.
- Treated pine comes wet. Stack the boards flat with scrap spacers between them, out of the sun, for 2–3 weeks before you cut. Dry boards don't shrink or twist after you build.
- Use screws labeled for treated lumber (most coated exterior screws are).
- Sand the faces and edges smooth, then stain once the wood is dry. A cedar-tone stain gives it the honey look in the photos.
- Wear a dust mask when cutting and sanding treated wood, and never burn the scraps.

Good to know
How big is it?
31 inches wide, 34½ inches deep and 24¾ inches to the top of the arms. The seat cushion sits at 15¾ inches, a relaxed lounge height.
Which tools do I need?
A drill/driver, a miter saw or circular saw, a tape measure, a speed square, two clamps and a sanding block. Every cut is a straight crosscut, and every joint is wood on wood with screws: no pocket holes, no glue-ups, no brackets.
How do the slats get even gaps?
Spacer blocks. You cut them all the same from a 5/4 deck board against a stop block, lay them on each course, and set the next course on top. Each course is screwed down through the blocks into the one below, and the next course's blocks hide the screw heads.
Can I build it in pine to save money?
Yes. Every version comes with a second shopping list in pressure-treated pine, with the same cuts and the same steps. Pine needs a couple of weeks to dry and a coat of cedar-tone stain, but costs well under half as much as cedar.
Does it go with the rest of the Stack collection?
Yes. The chair, the sofa and the ottoman share the same 2x10 plinth, the same 15¾-inch seat and the same honey finish, so any mix makes a set.
Which cushions does it use?
One standard 24 × 24 deep-seat set, bought ready-made: Home Depot's Hampton Bay CushionGuard set is about $64, or a Sunbrella set about $112. The seat pocket is 29 inches deep, a 24-inch seat plus the 5-inch back cushion, so no bare deck shows.
